Dr. Dan McMillan believes that prevention is the best medicine and that a healthy diet, good sleep, regular exercise, and a balanced lifestyle go a long way to help people maintain good health. This approach is what led him to become a family medicine physician, since he likes to treat the person rather than the condition. He appreciates the opportunity to work with people of all ages and from all walks of life.
Dan grew up in Palo Alto and went to UC Santa Cruz for undergraduate school. He taught middle school science in Houston, Texas for two years in the Teach For America program before going to Oregon Health Sciences University for medical school, where he met his wife, Jill Pavliscak, also a family physician at Purisima Family Medicine. After residency in Seattle, Washington, they worked for four years in Crownpoint, New Mexico on the Navajo Reservation, an experience that Dan found extremely rewarding and challenging, but slightly too isolated after they had their three children.
The Coastside is the perfect fit for Dan, with his long-term connection to the area, the natural beauty, and the small-town feel. He likes spending time with family and friends, getting regular exercise (jogging, biking, basketball, soccer), and being outdoors.
